Frankfurt/Main/Ahrensburg (dpa/lhe) - According to statistics from name researcher Knud Bielefeld, Emilia and Noah will be the most popular first names for newborns in Hesse in 2022. Nationwide, both names are at the top of the list from Bielefeld, which according to its own information has evaluated around 250,000 birth reports from all over Germany. This corresponds to about 34 percent of all newborns. Two-thirds of the data comes from registry offices, the rest from baby galleries from maternity clinics.
Sophia and Mia took second and third place for girls' first names in Hesse. For boys, Matteo and Elias were the most popular first names after Noah.
Bielefeld has been publishing the ranking lists of first names since 2006. The Society for the German Language also publishes similar statistics - albeit with around 90 percent of all data from the registry offices. Emilia and Noah were also at the top of her first names for 2021.
