Hesse: Hesse continues to rely on doctors and municipalities for vaccination

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - With a view to the corona vaccinations with advanced vaccines, Hesse continues to rely on the interaction of resident doctors and the public health service. "Furthermore, some company doctors and dentists as well as pharmacists vaccinate," said the Ministry of Social Affairs in Wiesbaden on request. Hesse has not had any state-owned vaccination centers since September 30, 2021.

The federal government plans to start with advanced vaccines for newer virus variants at the beginning of September. Subject to the expected EU-wide approval, around 14 million doses adapted to the BA.1 variant are to come from Biontech and Moderna in the two weeks starting September 5th.

The municipalities in Hesse have chosen very different models for how they operate the vaccination centers of the public health service, the ministry explained. For example, vaccinations are often outsourced to aid organizations. "Here, the supply has been adjusted to the reduced demand in the past few months," added the ministry.

However, the requirement that capacities can be increased again at any time still applies. The delivery of the adapted vaccines to the practices and vaccination centers is carried out by the federal government via the pharmacies.
