Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - A man died in an apartment fire in Wiesbaden-Dotzheim. The resident was able to be freed from his burning apartment on Monday night, as the fire brigade announced early Monday morning. Despite resuscitation measures, he died on the spot.
The fire broke out in a first-floor apartment late Sunday evening. In total, the firefighters were able to bring 21 residents to safety unharmed, using ladders, among other things. The people had previously made themselves felt at windows because the escape route was cut off by the stairwell. "The fire was under control relatively quickly," said a spokesman. "But the extensive human rescue was very challenging."
The cause of the fire was initially unclear, the spokesman said. The police are investigating. The fire initially made the building uninhabitable.
