Kassel (dpa/lhe) - Isabel Carqueville will be running for the SPD in the Kassel mayoral election in March 2023. She was confirmed as a candidate with 186 votes and thus 61 percent at the constituency conference, as the SPD Kassel announced on Thursday. The trade unionist Carqueville is thus in direct competition with the incumbent and SPD man Christian Geselle. He had announced that he wanted to run as an independent candidate for a second term. This was preceded by a month-long internal party dispute.
Hesse's former justice minister, Eva Kühne-Hörmann (CDU), has already been nominated for next spring's election. In addition, Sven Schoeller (Greens) and Violetta Bock (Left) want to move into Kassel's town hall.
