Hesse: More than one million euros in damage in a hall fire in Kelkheim

Kelkheim (dpa/lhe) - A fire in a warehouse in the Kelkheim industrial area caused damage of over one million euros. Because of the many embers, the fire could only be completely extinguished on Wednesday morning after more than 26 hours, said a police spokesman in Wiesbaden. The criminal police will now begin their investigations on site, so far there are indications of a technical defect. The fire brigade reported on social media that the flames were under control on Tuesday afternoon, but a lot of smoke was still rising because of the heat and the embers.

The approximately 900 square meter warehouse was used by a car paint shop and a fuel dealer. Three employees were able to escape unharmed when the fire broke out, and one firefighter suffered from mild smoke inhalation while putting out the fire. Several roads in the industrial area were closed until Wednesday morning. Because of the smoke, no more trains were allowed to run on the route between Königstein and Frankfurt-Höchst until Tuesday afternoon.
