Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The state-owned housing company Nassauische Heimstätte completed 458 apartments last year. 75.1 million euros have been invested for this purpose, the homestead announced on Wednesday in Wiesbaden when presenting its 2021 balance sheet. In addition, the construction of more than 640 apartments has started and apartments and land have been purchased. In Darmstadt, for example, 276 apartments were to be built on the sites of two former barracks. In 2020, 766 new apartments were completed.
"The aim of the state government is that everyone in Hesse can find an apartment at an affordable rent," said Economics Minister Tarek Al-Wazir (Greens). 2.2 billion euros would be made available for subsidized living space, and equity had also been increased twice in the past five years by 200 million euros each time.
According to the announcement, around 4,000 apartments are to be modernized in terms of energy efficiency within five years. Around 140 million euros were spent on this last year. According to Al-Wazir, the goal is a climate-neutral building stock by 2045.
The Nassauische Heimstätte Wohnstadt group of companies, based in Frankfurt and Kassel, generated a surplus of around 57.1 million euros last year, roughly the same as in 2020. It owns over 59,000 apartments in 115 locations, with an average rent of 6.28 euros per square meter.
