Hesse: robbery of drug dealers: murder trial begins

Gießen (dpa/lhe) - A deadly attack in the drug milieu will occupy the Gießen district court in the coming months. As of this Monday (10:00 a.m.), three men are in the dock for murder and robbery resulting in death, among other things. They are said to have attacked and robbed two men they knew as heroin dealers in an apartment in Giessen in central Hesse last February.

Prosecutors believe two of the accused punched, kicked and gagged the 53 and 56-year-old victims. The accomplice is said to have been a lookout at the door. According to the public prosecutor, the 56-year-old was killed as a result of the "massive acts of violence", the 53-year-old, who was injured, died the following May of unclear causes. His death is said not to have been a direct result of the raid. According to the investigators, the alleged perpetrators, who are said to be drug users themselves, stole around 15 grams of heroin, among other things.

The investigators base the strong suspicion against the three accused, who have Georgian nationality, on witness statements, camera recordings of a door viewer, radio cell data and the analysis of DNA traces. The regional court is planning trial days into January.
