Hesse: Tax offices in Hesse hold Christmas peace

Wiesbaden (dpa/lhe) - The tax offices in Hesse will keep a Christmas peace from December 20th and will no longer send unpleasant mail to tax debtors. Reminders, fines and enforcements would then usually only be initiated again in the new year, said Finance Minister Michael Boddenberg (CDU) on Tuesday in Wiesbaden. "People in the country should be able to enjoy the Christmas holidays carefree - this is the idea behind the Christmas peace," he said. However, the Christmas peace does not apply if claims become statute-barred during this period or if measures in the public interest are immediately necessary.

It is important that citizens pay their taxes honestly, emphasized Boddenberg. "You make an indispensable contribution to our community, to the construction and maintenance of schools, kindergartens and hospitals as well as transport routes."
