American actor James Caan (star of "The Godfather" & "Misery") has died at the age 82.

American actor James Caan (star of "The Godfather" & "Misery") has died at the age 82. His family and his manager announced the news via Twitter on Thursday, July 7.

His family posted a tweet on Caan's account saying that Jimmy died on July 6th. Matt DelPiano, his manager, confirmed the news for AFP.

James Caan was born in New York in the Bronx in 1940. He had been the youngest son of Vito Corleone (Marlon brando), in 1972's Sonny Corleone in Francis Ford Coppola's legendary film "The Godfather", about the mafia Italiano-American.

For his role as Sonny Corleone, he was nominated for an Oscar. His brutal assassination at a toll booth under a hailof bullets became one of the film's most memorable moments. The film celebrated its 50th anniversary in this year.

One of his great roles was in "Misery", which was adapted from Stephen King's novel. He played a writer kidnapped and taken to her grave by Kathy Bates.

Jimmy was one the greatest actors. Manager Matt DelPiano said that he was not only one of the most talented actors in our industry, but also funny, loyal and caring. Caan also appeared in "Le Solitaire" as well as "Rollerball".
