The majority of members of the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ) consider that the resignation of the member appointed at the proposal of Izquierda Unida Concepción Sáez will not have any impact on the internal life of the body.

In addition, members of both the conservative and progressive sectors consulted by EL MUNDO rule out that the presentation of his resignation will have a contagion effect within the institution.

The member, who has always been a loose verse within the Council, presented his resignation to President Rafael Mozo 11 days ago through a letter in which he said that the situation of the Council seems "unsustainable" and that he considered "useless legal and politically, my continuity in this radical scenario and perhaps already irreversible degradation of the institution".

The counselor affirmed that "she has trusted that the renewal of this Council would take place at some point in the successive occasions on which it seemed imminent and, due to an excessive and perhaps mistaken sense of responsibility, I have been putting up with the passing of months and years years, not without trepidation and discomfort.

Legal sources explain that Mozo and Sáez then held a conversation and in it they agreed to keep the presentation of their resignation secret for the moment and discuss the matter in plenary session on the 30th, where the member will address her colleagues to explain to them personally the reasons for a resignation with which he has threatened since the mandate of the CGPJ expired in December 2018.

The Organic Law of the Judiciary, in its article 582.1, establishes that it corresponds to the president of the body to accept the aforementioned resignation. Legal sources admit that Sáez's resignation gives a "greater sense of decomposition" of a body that has been with extended functions since 2018, although they affirm that it will remain in an "isolated episode". From the Council they emphasize that the member - close to the political formation of Podemos - "has never been very integrated" within the institution and add that this situation of "solitude" has been increasing in recent months.

Although everyone recognizes that the decision to admit or reject the resignation corresponds to Mozo, within the CGPJ there are also critical voices with which the member decides to "abandon ship now." "We are carrying out a public function and you cannot give up exercising it for ideological reasons. The resignation should only be considered due to a clear impossibility of remaining in office, the path to desertions cannot be opened," affirms a counselor in conversation with this newspaper.

For his part, another member sums up the majority sentiment within the governing body of the judges. "We do not feel conditioned by Concha's position," he concluded.
