The semi-final at Roland-Garros will feature a little bit of France since the French pairing of Kristina Malovic and Caroline Garcia qualified after beating the Chinese pair Xu-Yang 6-3.
They will be facing Jelena Ostapenko (semi-finals) and Lyudmyla Kirchenok (semi-finals).
2:51 p.m . : Kasatkina's first Grand Slam semifinal
Daria Kasatkina, her 100% Russian opponent, won the semi-final of Grand Slam by beating Veronika Kudermetova 6-4, 7-6 (7/5).
The 25-year old Russian player hasn't lost a set at the Porte d'Auteuil, despite having conceded ten against Kudermetova. This is even more impressive. She told her clan to "Keep calm, everything's fine," even though she acknowledged that the match was "nerve-hard" and "very close".
Kasatkina was the 2014 junior champion at Porte d'Auteuil. She had also reached the quarters of Major twice on senior circuit, and the Paris tournament in 2018. She had already reached her highest ranking (10th) that year before marking time. Kasatkina went through what she called a "dark phase" which led her to consider stopping her career at 21.
