Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: 5000 hectares of fields for solar: start for the first 150 hectares

Dettmannsdorf (dpa / mv) - Up to 5000 hectares of fields in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania can be cultivated with solar systems - the state parliament had cleared the way for this. The first three solar parks can now be built on a total of 150 hectares in Dettmannsdorf (Vorpommern-Rügen district), as the Ministry of Economic Affairs announced on Monday.

The Bremen project developer Energiekontor was the first to get the green light via the so-called target deviation procedure. According to Economics Minister Reinhard Meyer, 70 applications totaling 4,800 hectares were received in the first year after the special rule came into force.

The three solar parks on the outskirts of Dettmannsdorf will supply 140 million kilowatt hours of electricity annually, which corresponds to the needs of around 40,000 households. The start of construction has been announced for 2023, with commissioning scheduled for 2024. The municipality of Dettmannsdorf is to receive a six-figure share of the income each year. In addition, trade tax and money are to flow to non-profit organizations in the region. The areas are leased by an agricultural company.

In June 2021, the state parliament decided that solar systems could be set up on up to 5,000 hectares of agricultural land, even if the state spatial development program did not provide for this. According to this set of rules, solar parks may only be set up in a 110 meter wide strip on traffic routes, such as railway lines, or on conversion areas.
