Mecklenburg-West Pomerania: Meeting of Rostock shipbuilders after the purchase of the shipyard

Rostock (dpa/mv) - After the purchase of the site by the federal government for the navy, shipbuilders are gathering today at the former Rostock location of the MV shipyards. The Federal Ministry of Defense confirmed the signing of the purchase agreement on Thursday. The former employees of the MV shipyards are likely to want to know when and how they will be taken on as workers. A transfer company runs until the end of October at the latest.

The naval arsenal is to service and repair ships of the German Navy in Rostock in the future. There was talk of around 500 jobs. Before you can start, however, you still have to clean up. There are still more than 17,000 tons of steel on the site that have already been used for the cruise ship "Global 2".

Following the insolvency of the MV Werften Group at the beginning of the year, Rostock is the third and last location to have a new owner. The local city had bought the Stralsund location in order to develop a maritime business park. In Wismar, the submarine builder Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems (TKMS) from Kiel and the medical technology manufacturer Eppendorf are now the owners. Here the 75 percent finished and previously unsold cruise ship "Global Dream" is still stored in the dock.
