Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The volleyball Bundesliga club SSC Palmberg Schwerin reacted to the failures in the middle block position and has signed Laura Broekstra from league rivals VC Neuwied 77. The club announced this on Tuesday. The club did not provide any information on the duration of the contract.
"She was our absolute dream candidate, so we are very happy that she is helping us in this precarious situation," said coach Felix Koslowski. Schwerin was looking for reinforcements for the squad because Lea Ambrosius and Leandra Negri are out in the medium term. This left the club with only two middle blockers in Indy Baijens and Jazmine White.
Broekstra has only been playing in the top German division since this season. "I didn't expect Schwerin's offer at all and I was very surprised at first," said the 26-year-old, adding: "But I was very aware that it was an incredible opportunity for me."
Important games are coming up for Schwerin in the coming weeks: On Wednesday (8 p.m.) the club will play the first leg in the playoff quarter-finals of the CEV Cup at Italian top club Scandicci. In the Bundesliga, the top duel against Allianz MTV Stuttgart will follow on Saturday (5:00 p.m.), and the cup final will take place at the end of February.
