Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: A woman and three men in the Strasbourg mayoral election

Strasburg (dpa / mv) - A woman and three men are running for the mayoral election in Strasburg in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district. As a spokeswoman for the election management in Strasburg said on Friday, all four candidates were admitted to the April 23 election. The election is necessary because the previous head of administration, Heike Hammermeister-Friese (CDU), was voted out prematurely in a referendum in November 2022.

The candidates are Livia Meier (initiative for Strasburg) and the three individual applicants Falk Böhme, Nico Jahnke and Klemens Kowalski. Meier, who is also supported by the CDU, is already a member of the city council, as is 25-year-old Jahnke.

In the city council, the CDU has four seats, two citizens' initiatives and the left three seats each, the SPD two and the AfD one. The ages of the four candidates range from 25 to 55 years. Around 4,500 people live in Strasburg, the only Uckermark town in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
