Neubrandenburg (dpa/mv) - The swimmer who died while crossing a group in Lake Tollense in Neubrandenburg drowned. This was the result of the autopsy of the dead American, as a spokeswoman for the Neubrandenburg public prosecutor said on Friday. The incident happened on August 13th.

According to the police, the autopsy and the investigations have so far revealed no evidence of external influence. According to the current status of the investigation, the death investigation will soon be discontinued, said the spokeswoman.

According to the police, the 61-year-old woman went with five companions from overseas on the approximately 2.5-kilometer swim from the east to the west shore of the lake. This had previously been practiced at several lakes. At the time, however, there was strong wind and waves at Lake Tollense. After four of the six swimmers were on the other bank, two members of the group went missing. During a search, the 61-year-old was found lifeless on the lake. A 37-year-old Canadian who was also missing had made the crossing at a different location and only later reported to the group.
