Rostock (dpa/mv) - The designated mayor of Rostock, Eva-Maria Kröger, will take office on February 1, 2023. The left-wing politician and previous member of the state parliament will take her oath of office during the parliamentary meeting on January 18, 2023 and will also receive the certificate of appointment dated February 1, the city of Rostock announced on Monday.

The 40-year-old prevailed in a runoff election on November 27 with a lead of almost 17 percentage points over her competitor, the non-party Michael Ebert, who is supported by the CDU/UFR and FDP. Kröger got 58.4 percent of the votes, Ebert 41.6 percent. Voter turnout was 36.9 percent. Kröger's term of office is seven years.
