Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Festival: Opponents of LNG plans want to mobilize

Binz (dpa/mv) - Opponents of the terminal for liquefied natural gas planned off Rügen want to set the mood on the island at the weekend with music. Concerts, workshops and readings are planned in Binz from Friday to Sunday under the motto "Resonance - Music for Rügen against LNG". The exact program should be published shortly, the organizers said on Tuesday. According to the Binz community, it expects thousands of visitors. Numerous public places in Binz are reserved for the weekend events.

According to previous plans, two platforms are to be built in the Baltic Sea off Sellin in the southeast of Rügen, on which floating liquefied natural gas terminals are to be moored. After the officially opened terminal in Lubmin in mid-January, it would be the second in Western Pomerania. The energy company RWE is to implement the project in front of Rügen on behalf of the federal government.

At the end of February, around 2,500 opponents of the plans demonstrated on Rügen. Almost all island mayors have also signed an appeal against the plans. There is also strong resistance on the other side of the island in the north-east.
