Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: First monkeypox case reported for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Waren (dpa / mv) - A first monkeypox case has been reported for Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It was an infection found in Berlin in a man reported in the northeast, said Anja Neutzling, spokeswoman for the State Office for Health and Social Affairs (Lagus), on Thursday. The "Ostsee-Zeitung" had previously reported.

The man is reported in the Mecklenburg Lake District district that he probably contracted another person in Berlin. The case was reported from there on June 24. The place of the first place of residence is decisive for the assignment of the cases. The Robert Koch Institute (RKI) recently gave the number of monkeypox cases in Germany at around 970. Berlin is particularly affected.

The Rostock tropical medicine specialist Emil Reisinger was recently optimistic that the pandemic in Germany could be caught again quickly. The spread is slow in this country.

Compared to smallpox, which has been eradicated since 1980, monkeypox is considered a less serious disease. According to the RKI, the incubation period is 5 to 21 days. The symptoms (including fever and skin rash, for example) usually go away on their own within a few weeks, but they can lead to medical complications and, in very rare cases, death in some people.
