Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Greifswald: Students protest against costs and cuts

Greifswald (dpa/mv) - Students at the University of Greifswald are protesting against the cuts in money for the universities and rising costs for students. A rally in front of the main university building is planned for Thursday (12.30 p.m.). The Senate, the Rectorate, the Studierendenwerk, academic staff and the city should also have their say.

The General Student Committee criticized the additional costs in dormitories and canteens being passed on to the students in full, since the student unions have been underfunded for years. In the past few weeks, universities have repeatedly drawn attention to concerns about rising energy costs, for example. The state government is also being criticized for plans to reduce university reserves.

The students have already announced further activities for the coming weeks, according to a statement from the University of Greifswald. Students had recently demonstrated in Rostock for affordable studies.
