Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Ground of new state returning officers in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Eight months after his appointment as head of the Statistical Office of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Christian Boden has also taken on the role of state returning officer. Minister of the Interior Christian level (SPD) appointed the 49-year-old to the office with effect from August 5, 2022, the ministry announced on Tuesday in Schwerin. This means that both functions are once again in one hand. Gudrun Beneicke had previously accompanied the offices for years, but she had taken over the management of the higher-level State Office for Internal Administration at the beginning of the year.

According to the level, Boden is now responsible for the proper conduct of elections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Next up are regular local and European elections in spring 2024. As the state returning officer, he is in charge of the state election committee and is involved in the election verification process, it said. The state returning authority also advises those involved and those interested in popular initiatives or referendums and checks whether the prerequisites for this are met.

Christian Boden is a lawyer and was head of department in the Ministry of the Interior before moving to the Statistical Office. He lives in Schwerin with his wife and three children.
