With 25 people affected per 1000 inhabitants, the rate is 38 percent above the national average, Barmer announced on Monday.

Within the federal state, Schwerin is the most affected with a value of 36. The state capital is the second most heavily polluted region in Germany after the city of Straubing in Bavaria.

For its morbidity and social atlas, Barmer evaluated data from inpatient and outpatient treatments of its insured persons from the years 2018 to 2020. The data should be continuously updated. The study is representative, said Barmer country manager Henning Kutzbach. According to the information, Barmer has 270,000 insured persons in MV and 8.6 million nationwide.
