Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: mask in local transport and isolation obligation remain

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - Unlike Saxony-Anhalt or Bavaria, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is sticking to the mask requirement in local public transport and the isolation requirement for corona infected people also remains in place. Health Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) referred to current expert information, according to which the number of infections is increasing again. "I'm afraid we're just at the beginning of the winter wave," she said on Friday in the state parliament in Schwerin.

The situation in the hospitals is also becoming increasingly tense because of the drastic increase in acute respiratory diseases. "Do you really want to lift the last protective measures in this situation," she asked in the direction of the AfD, CDU and FDP MPs. The opposition groups had called for an end to the strict requirements and more personal responsibility, pointing out that the course of the disease was significantly less severe and that people were less accepting of the restrictions. Other federal states did it, said several speakers.

"I'm not convinced by the concept of some federal states to suspend the obligation to isolate. I think it's wrong from an infectious point of view and dangerous in interpersonal interaction," said Drese.

As can be seen from data from the State Office for Health and Social Affairs, the number of registered new corona infections in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania has been increasing again slightly since the end of November after an interim decrease. However, far fewer tests are now included in the statistics than in the summer, so that comparisons are only of limited significance.
