Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Ministry: Many families waive the supplement

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, many families with low incomes in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania do without cash. Minister Stefanie Drese (SPD) appealed to people on Tuesday to check their possible entitlement to child benefit supplements. This goes well, for example, on the website of the employment agency, said a spokesman for the minister. Otherwise, the Familienkassen are competent contact persons. In MV they are in Rostock, Schwerin, Neubrandenburg and Stralsund.

According to an estimate by the Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, only every third eligible child in Germany receives the child benefit supplement of up to 250 euros per month. The minimum income limit for the receipt is 600 euros for single parents and 900 euros for married parents. There is no rigid maximum income limit, so that families with higher incomes can also benefit from this service, says Drese. In addition, a prerequisite for receiving child benefit is that the unmarried children live with their parents and that they are younger than 25 years of age.
