Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Municipalities are demanding more grants for investments

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The day of towns and municipalities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania is calling on the state government to increase its grants for investment measures again. "Especially in these times, the municipalities are asked not to let their necessary investments rest, but to implement them now," said Thomas Beyer, Chairman of the City and Municipal Council, in view of the higher revenue expected for the state according to the November tax estimate.

Against the background of the expected additional income of 488 million euros this year and 229 million euros next year, it is incomprehensible that the so-called infrastructure flat rate should be reduced from 150 to 100 million euros. According to Beyer, the tax estimate shows that there is scope to reverse the reduction decided mid-year.

The infrastructure flat rate was introduced with the reform of municipal financial equalization in 2020. It should enable municipalities to maintain and renew important infrastructure regardless of their own budgetary situation.
