Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Per train: 49-euro ticket Step in the right direction

Schwerin (dpa / mv) - A step in the right direction, but not the big hit. This is how the Pro-Bahn regional association Mecklenburg-West Pomerania assesses the introduction of the 49-euro ticket planned for January 1 next year. On the commuter routes to Hamburg and Berlin, the successor to the nine-euro ticket would "definitely be a relief, but something is still missing for a real mobility ticket," said the state chairman of the interest group, Marcel Drews, on Thursday when asked. Within the country, the head of the passenger association advocates a 29-euro ticket.

According to the Bahn website, a local transport annual ticket without any discounts for the Schwerin-Hamburg route currently costs 2763.50 euros, to Berlin it is 3778.60 euros. With the 49-euro ticket, for which 588 euros would have to be paid annually, these costs can be reduced by 2175.5 or 3190.6 euros. "Quite interesting," said Drews.

However, the new offer is "not attractive" within the federal state and for occasional drivers, emphasized Drews. In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, a cheaper fare is not enough to lure people away from public transport. To do this, gaps need to be closed. The Pro-Bahn country manager means above all an improvement in the range of routes, the frequency and also the travel times.
