Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Phase model is intended to ensure operations when there is a high level of sick leave

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - In view of the currently high number of infectious diseases, the phase model known from the Corona crisis is being temporarily expanded at schools in the north-east. This was agreed with all members of the Education Council "in order to secure the lessons as far as possible under the given conditions," explained Minister of Education Simone Oldenburg (left) on Sunday in Schwerin. The regulation, which is divided into two phases with limited and insufficient use of teachers, should apply from this Monday.

It provides that, depending on the availability of teachers, schools can also go into distance or alternating teaching from grade seven. In grades one to six, teaching should be attended in person, even with limited teaching staff; if there are no longer enough teachers, face-to-face teaching should also be maintained - if necessary, emergency care should be offered.

There will also continue to be face-to-face classes for the final classes. "The school management decides on the schooling of the pre-final classes on the basis of the personnel situation," says the message from the ministry. For pupils with complex disabilities and health impairments, care must be ensured throughout all phases.

On the basis of these regulations, the schools can continue to guarantee teaching independently within the scope of their local possibilities, said Oldenburg. "This regulation will apply from next Monday. All schools have been informed of our joint decision," said Education Minister Oldenburg.
