Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: Seawolves defeat: Coach Held complains about a lack of energy

The five days in the hotel didn't fit into the Rostockers' concept either. On January 3rd, they will face FC Bayern Munich in the local town hall.

Rostock (dpa/mv) - After the 83:101 defeat of the Rostock Seawolves at the Fraport Skyliners on Boxing Day, head coach Christian Held made no secret of his disappointment. "Congratulations to Frankfurt and Coach Hammink. They were the team that played with more energy today," admitted the 34-year-old. On the other hand, his team was unable to compensate for the loss of two players, adds the Rostock coach. JeQuan Lewis was also among the absentees. The playmaker had shone in the pre-Christmas Eve win at Crailsheim but picked up an ankle injury in the Merlins game.

With the Skyliners, who only had two wins before the duel, the Seawolves had still acted on an equal footing in the first half. After the break, however, the Mecklenburg team had increasing problems stopping the hosts from throwing threes. At the end of the encounter, Frankfurt's hit rate was 50 percent.

However, Held did not want to attribute the fact that his team was unable to find a remedy solely to the personnel bottlenecks. "In addition, there are five days in a row in the hotel. It's just difficult to bring energy. Unfortunately, we only had it in phases."

Held was supported in his reference to the circumstances by his fellow coach Geert Hammink. He emphasized: "I think the league should ensure that no team should be in the hotel for five days in a row because of an away trip. It's just a difficult situation." Good for the Seawolves: They will play their next game on January 3rd in the local town hall. FC Bayern Munich will then be guests.
