Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: technology theft from agricultural machinery: trial against man

Pasewalk (dpa/mv) - A 47-year-old man has to answer to the district court of Pasewalk (West Pomerania-Greifswald) this Thursday for commercial theft of GPS control technology from agricultural machinery. The man is accused of removing and stealing on-board computers and other GPS accessories from tractors and combine harvesters in Western Pomerania in the summer of 2020, a court spokesman said on Tuesday. The cases occurred in Groß Luckow and Strasburg. He also stole an off-road vehicle, police said.

The man is said to have brought the technology booty to Lithuania in order to turn it into money. After investigators tracked down the man, the public prosecutor's office had requested the extradition of the 47-year-old, which the Lithuanian authorities also complied with. If convicted, the man could face several years in prison, prosecutors said.

In Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, there have been a series of thefts of high-quality agricultural control technology in the past, behind which, according to the State Criminal Police Office MV, there is mostly organized crime from Eastern Europe.
