Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania: the government is talking about the amount of the infrastructure fee

Schwerin (dpa/mv) - The last word has not yet been said about the future amount of the infrastructure flat rate granted to the municipalities in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. Minister of the Interior Christian level (SPD) was ready on Thursday in the state parliament in Schwerin to talk about the forthcoming cut in funds again. "We are going into the discussion with an open mind," said level, with a view to the municipal summit planned for the end of November. However, in view of the currently difficult financial situation, he also expects the municipalities to be willing to compromise.

Like the leading municipal associations before it, the CDU also called for the retention of the previous 150 million euros in its state parliament application, which the municipalities are provided with as a lump sum for investments by the state according to the number of inhabitants. "The need for investment is still high. The lump sum also enables financially weak communities to invest in playgrounds, roads or fire brigades," said CDU MP Marc Reinhard.

When the municipal financial equalization system was revised in 2020, it was agreed that 100 million euros would be granted annually in order to reduce the investment backlog in the municipalities, which was estimated at a good two billion euros, over a period of 20 years. For three years, the country increased the sum to 150 million. However, this regulation expires in 2023.
