Neustadt-Glewe (dpa/mv) - Several fire brigades extinguished two fires in the Neustadt-Glewe region (Ludwigslust-Parchim) on Tuesday night. As a police spokesman said, a forest area of more than 3,000 square meters not far from the small town of Wabel, which belongs to Neustadt-Glewe, burned on Monday evening. Around 100 firefighters were on duty. They fetched the extinguishing water from the Müritz-Elde waterway about a kilometer away. The fire watch continued in the morning. The police suspect intentional arson.
Shortly before the forest fire, a bush area not far from a skater park had burned in Neustadt-Glewe. Arson is also suspected here. This fire was quickly extinguished. According to the information, the amount of damage is still unclear in both cases. It has been very dry in Mecklenburg for weeks, on Monday evening it was around 28 degrees.
