North Rhine-Westphalia: 2121 flights canceled in NRW: quarter of a million people affected

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - Within two months, more than a quarter of a million travelers in North Rhine-Westphalia were affected by flight cancellations. The state government announced this in response to a request from the SPD on Tuesday in Düsseldorf.

Between mid-May and mid-July, 2121 flights were canceled at NRW airports. In Düsseldorf there were 1073 flights, in Cologne 875 and in Dortmund 78 flights. At the airports in Münster/Osnabrück, Paderborn/Lippstadt and Weeze, there were fewer than 50 failures each.

The number of passengers was subsequently estimated on the basis of the average occupancy and could deviate significantly from the actual number.

According to estimates, 140,000 passengers were affected in Cologne alone and almost 100,000 in Düsseldorf, despite significantly more cancellations. According to the NRW Ministry of Transport, the shortage of personnel in the aviation industry is a global phenomenon.
