North Rhine-Westphalia: Archdiocese of Paderborn presents financial report 2021

Paderborn (dpa / lnw) - The Archdiocese of Paderborn will present its figures for the 2021 financial year on Wednesday (11 a.m.). In the previous year, 2020, Paderborn had received fewer church taxes for the first time in twelve years due to the corona pandemic. The reasons for this were short-time work and higher unemployment among church members. So far, leaving the church has had little impact on income. The financial experts of the Archdiocese in Paderborn will explain whether this has changed in the second year of the pandemic.

After the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising and ahead of Cologne, Paderborn is one of the most prosperous Catholic dioceses in Germany. With 1.4 million believers, it is the sixth largest German diocese. In 2020, the Archdiocese reported a total balance of 4.7 billion euros and a loss of 20 million euros. The deficit was covered by reserves built up in previous years.
