North Rhine-Westphalia: Arrest in Spain after a violent crime in Warendorf

Warendorf (dpa / lnw) - After the violent death of a 21-year-old woman from Warendorf in Münsterland, the police in Spain arrested the suspect on a motorway shortly before Madrid. "The accused allowed himself to be arrested by the Spanish authorities without resistance," said senior public prosecutor Martin Botzenhardt, according to a statement on Tuesday. The extradition of the 30-year-old man is now being requested, the public prosecutor's office and the police from Münster and Warendorf announced together. An arrest warrant had been issued for the man across Europe. On Sunday, a judge issued an arrest warrant on suspicion of murder, rape and robbery resulting in death.

The suspect from Ennigerloh is said to have intercepted the later victim at the front door at around 5:30 a.m. last Wednesday (9 November) and pushed him back into the apartment with a knife. There, the 30-year-old is said to have raped the woman and then killed her. He is said to have fled with the woman's cell phone and wallet and withdrawn money from the 21-year-old's account with the EC card.

According to the public prosecutor's office, the suspect is an acquaintance of the woman. Both are said to have been work colleagues at an earlier point in time. According to the investigators, the background to the crime is still unclear.
