Höxter (dpa / lnw) - Due to an avian influenza case in a farm in Borgentreich in the Höxter district, all surviving animals in the stock of around 11,000 chickens were killed. The district announced this on Friday. At the same time, a restricted zone was set up around the outbreak site. In the zone, chickens must be kept in closed pens or under a shelter that protects them against the intrusion of wild birds.
In NRW, avian influenza appeared for the first time in six months at the beginning of October. A hobby in Bottrop was affected. Avian influenza is a viral, highly contagious infectious disease affecting livestock species and other birds. The risk of infection for humans is considered low.
