North Rhine-Westphalia: carol singers move from house to house again

The carol singers bring the blessing "C M B" to the houses. And a bit of color in the winter. After the corona restrictions, normal Epiphany singing begins again.

Aachen (dpa / lnw) - After two years of restrictions due to the corona pandemic, the children's missionary work "Die Sternsinger" is expecting a normal season again. "The conditions allow the carol singers to move from house to house again," said a spokesman for the Catholic Children's Mission in Aachen. Up to 300,000 boys and girls nationwide take part in the campaign around the turn of the year. They collect money for children's projects all over the world.

Dressed as little kings, they put the blessing "C M B" on front doors. This stands for "Christus mansionem benedicat" (Christ bless this house). But at the beginning of 2021 and 2022, the carol singers were severely restricted due to the pandemic conditions. They could be visited in public places, and drive-ins were offered to motorists. In addition, the singing of the Epiphany was extended.

The President of the Kindermissionswerk, Dirk Bingener, is pleased that the carol singers can again bring the blessing personally. "And I'm happy about the many dedicated girls and boys all over Germany who will help needy children worldwide with the donations collected," said the pastor.

At the beginning of 2022, 38.6 million euros had been raised. The forthcoming solidarity action by children for children is called "Strengthening children, protecting children - in Indonesia and worldwide". This Epiphany song is intended to draw attention to girls and boys who suffer from various forms of violence.
