North Rhine-Westphalia: climate activists block central street in Dortmund

Dortmund (dpa/lnw) - Climate activists from the Last Generation group disrupted traffic in downtown Dortmund on Wednesday. In the morning, five people blocked part of the central two-lane B54 into town, some stuck. Police officers used oil to loosen the activists from the asphalt and carried them to the side of the road. Two people had glued themselves directly to the roadway with one hand and were glued to two other activists each with the other hand, the fifth person was not glued.

Traffic was backed up significantly. Several drivers honked their horns, got angry, got out and cursed. A woman said she had her sick daughter in the car and had to go to the doctor. After around half an hour, the traffic started up again. The police recorded the personal details of the five people. There is coercion in the room, said a spokesman. The protest group has been organizing controversial actions for months to get politicians to do more climate protection.
