North Rhine-Westphalia: Controversial trip to Russia: No investigations into Blex

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The public prosecutor's office will not investigate the politician after the controversial trip to Russia by the then AfD MP Christian Blex. According to the public prosecutor, there was no initial suspicion. The SPD parliamentary group leader Sven Wolf reported Blex in October.

At the time, Wolf did not list any specific criminal offenses in his letter to the public prosecutor. After Blex had traveled to Russia with two other AfD politicians, he had generally asked "for an examination of all possible crimes". Blex had called off a planned visit to the Donbass in Ukraine because of the criticism at home.

The AfD parliamentary group in the Düsseldorf state parliament nevertheless excluded Blex. He is now a non-attached MP.

According to his own statements, SPD politician Wolf has already been informed by the public prosecutor that his complaint will have no consequences. "It is very unfortunate, but it is true that the public prosecutor's office has also examined the facts," said Wolf of the German Press Agency.
