North Rhine-Westphalia: cyclists seriously injured in accidents

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - Within a few minutes on Monday morning in the Cologne area, two cyclists were hit by vehicles and seriously injured. In the center of Cologne, a truck rolled over a 74-year-old woman when turning right, who was critically injured, the Cologne police said. A good 20 minutes later, an 84-year-old was hit by a van at an intersection between Cologne and Pulheim-Brauweiler.

According to the police, the woman was trapped under the heating oil van in the accident in the city center. Rescue workers freed the 74-year-old and took her to a clinic. The 48-year-old driver suffered a shock and was also taken to the hospital, it said.

According to the police in the Rhein-Erft district, the cause of the accident at the intersection just outside Cologne was initially unclear. The 84-year-old was flown to the hospital in a rescue helicopter.

A 63-year-old pedelec rider in Erftstadt was hit by a car on Sunday and dragged along for several meters, the police said on Monday. First responders and rescue workers freed the trapped woman by lifting the car with a jack. She was taken to a hospital in a rescue helicopter.
