Alsdorf (dpa / lnw) - On Wednesday night, the fire brigade extinguished a fire in a harvested field in Alsdorf near Aachen. A total of eight people, including five firefighters, were injured, the police said in Aachen on Wednesday. The scene of the fire was still cordoned off for the investigation of the criminal police. According to previous knowledge, about 2.5 hectares of a harvested field had caught fire. The constant wind made extinguishing the fire difficult. Two drones were used for reconnaissance measures.
The residents of a homestead in the middle of the fire were able to get to safety in time and were not injured. Three residents who inhaled smoke were slightly injured. Three firefighters were hospitalized. They were injured by smoke gas or had circulatory problems because of the extreme heat.
