Erkelenz (dpa / lnw) - Around 3000 people want to demonstrate today at the Garzweiler opencast mine for an end to lignite mining. The participants want to go from the village of Keyenberg to the largely deserted village of Lützerath, which is to make way for opencast mining.

The alliances Fridays For Future, Lützerath Lebt and All Villages Remain called for the demonstration. The organizers demand that Lützerath be preserved. The demonstration has the motto "For no coal in this world".
