North Rhine-Westphalia: forest fire and flooding: new WDR climate app

Cologne (dpa / lnw) - West German Broadcasting (WDR) has developed a climate app for schoolchildren. Thanks to augmented reality, you suddenly find yourself in a burning forest or in the flood waters of the Ahr valley. Young people from NRW describe their lives with climate change, but also tell how they are becoming active themselves. Part of the climate app is an interactive game in which users dive into the underwater world and fish plastic waste out of the sea.

The app makes possible what schoolbooks alone cannot do, said WDR director Tom Buhrow after a WDR announcement on Friday. "Students can immersively and interactively engage with this topic, which is so important to all of us." The app is designed as a supplement for the classroom and is primarily aimed at students between the ages of 13 and 16.
