"The fourth weekend in Advent is usually the strongest, so the expectations of retailers are correspondingly high," said the spokeswoman for the NRW trade association, Carina Peretzke, of the German Press Agency. However, consumers still have plenty of time to find the right gifts in the coming week, so the pressure to buy them might not be as great as in other years.
After the first three Advent weekends, retail in North Rhine-Westphalia drew a mixed balance. A lot of people are out and about in the inner cities. However, a certain reluctance to buy is noticeable. “There is still a lot of room for improvement in sales. Compared to the time before the pandemic, there is still a lot of catching up to do,” said Peretzke.
