North Rhine-Westphalia: Incidence in NRW continues to fall slightly

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The corona incidence in North Rhine-Westphalia continues to decline slightly. On Friday morning, the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) reported 288.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants within seven days for the most populous federal state. A week ago (26/8) the value was 338.9 and four weeks ago (5/8) it was 436.3.

There are currently major differences within the state: With a seven-day incidence of 481.1 on Friday, the district of Euskirchen was in 7th place nationwide. The districts of Minden-Lübbecke (425.4) and Düren (414.9 ) were among the ten districts and independent cities nationwide with the highest values. The district of Olpe (144.0) had the lowest NRW value.

However, the information only provides a very incomplete picture of the number of infections. Experts have been assuming for some time that there will be a large number of cases not recorded by the RKI - mainly because not all infected people have a PCR test done. Only positive PCR tests count in the statistics. In addition, late registrations or transmission problems can lead to a distortion of individual daily values.

According to the RKI information from Friday, there were 8756 new confirmed corona infections in NRW within one day. That period added 22 virus-related deaths.
