North Rhine-Westphalia: July in NRW: Very warm, too dry and many hours of sunshine

Essen (dpa / lnw) - Warm, too dry and a lot of sun: That is the preliminary balance of the German Weather Service (DWD) for the month of July in North Rhine-Westphalia. For the second summer month of the year, the meteorologists recorded 240 hours of sunshine in NRW. That was 53 more than the average, as the DWD announced on Friday.

When it rains, the balance looks like this: In North Rhine-Westphalia there was only 35 liters of precipitation per square meter. The reference value for the month of July is 82 liters and thus significantly higher. At 18.8 degrees, the average temperature was 1.9 degrees above the long-term mean of the international reference period 1961-1990.

North Rhine-Westphalia is therefore in line with the nationwide trend: July 2022 in Germany was "significantly too warm, significantly too dry and very sunny", reported the DWD on Friday after the first evaluation of the results of its around 2000 measuring stations. According to the statement, the weather was more Mediterranean than typically Central European.
