North Rhine-Westphalia: Man with a knife in Hütte: SEK mission in Ennepetal

Ennepetal (dpa / lnw) - Because a 58-year-old entrenched himself with a knife in a garden shed after an alleged drunk driving, a campsite in Ennepetal in the southern Ruhr area has been evacuated. After the forces of a special task force (SEK) surrounded the caravan early on Saturday morning, the man left his hut, threw the knife on the ground and was arrested without resistance, the police said.

The officials received a tip about drunk driving in the morning and addressed the 58-year-old in front of his hut when he withdrew with the knife. It was unclear at this point whether he wanted to use the weapon against himself or others, it said.

In order to rule out any danger to others, the other residents of the campsite were taken to a nearby fire station by bus as a precaution. Everyone involved was unharmed, police said. The man was taken to a hospital to have his mental condition assessed.
