North Rhine-Westphalia: Many diseases: NRW clinics are working on the attack

Essen (dpa / lnw) - Because of numerous cases of illness, doctors and nurses in the NRW clinics are currently working on the attack. According to information from the state's university clinics, the situation is precarious, and in the children's clinics it is even "extremely tense". According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) continues to spread in addition to the flu virus. This can be particularly dangerous for small children and infants.

As the university clinics in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Essen informed the German Press Agency on request, the situation is very tense due to the strong waves of infectious diseases. It is true that interventions that have hardly been planned so far would have to be postponed or canceled, such as at the height of the corona pandemic. Nevertheless, in individual cases, operations or treatments could be postponed.

The situation in children's hospitals is particularly precarious. According to the University Hospital Düsseldorf (UKD), there is no end in sight to the wave of illnesses: "A peak in infections with influenza and RSV is currently not foreseeable throughout Germany," said UKD spokesman Tobias Pott.
