North Rhine-Westphalia: Mask requirement in NRW local transport will probably remain

Düsseldorf (dpa / lnw) - The mask requirement in local public transport in North Rhine-Westphalia will probably be extended. "In our view, there should always be a nationwide procedure for the mask requirement in public transport," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Health in Düsseldorf on Monday of the German Press Agency.

As long as the federal government maintains the mask requirement in air traffic and national rail traffic, this should also apply to local public transport, which does not stop at national borders. The ministry continues to monitor the infection process very closely and will provide information in good time about a new corona protection ordinance and any innovations, the spokesman added.

The country’s previous Corona Protection Ordinance, which in particular includes the obligation to wear a mask in local transport, expires this Friday. According to the previous state regulation, the mask requirement also applies in medical and nursing facilities such as medical practices, hospitals and nursing homes as well as in state facilities for the joint accommodation of many people. These include refugee accommodation and community accommodation for the homeless.
