North Rhine-Westphalia: Metal thieves stopped with a forklift

Bielefeld (dpa / lnw) - Quick-witted employees stopped the delivery van of three suspected metal thieves on a company premises in Bielefeld with a forklift truck placed sideways. The fleeing thieves were able to push the forklift away with their van, but the van was so badly damaged that it couldn't get far, the Bielefeld police reported on Wednesday. The three suspects had to leave the vehicle near the scene of the crime and fled on foot without taking anything. They are wanted.

The three men had previously loaded old steel plates and steel pipes on the company premises on Tuesday at around 1:20 p.m. in broad daylight. The employees noticed them because they had removed barriers at the entrance to get onto the site. In addition, the van had a foreign number plate.
