Düsseldorf (dpa/lnw) - Around 1.9 million people in North Rhine-Westphalia received minimum social security benefits at the end of 2021. That was almost 66,000 or 3.4 percent fewer than a year earlier, as the State Statistical Office IT.NRW announced on Friday.
The number of job seekers who received basic security fell by 4.7 percent to 1.5 million. Around 28,000 people (down 12.3 percent) received help with subsistence outside of institutions.
The number of people who received standard benefits under the Asylum Seekers Benefits Act increased by 6.6 percent to 86,000. At around 162,000 people, the number of beneficiaries of basic security in old age was also 4.3 percent higher than in the previous year.
